Amersfoort : Barracks for Infantry or Juliana van Stolberg-Barracks, before 1912.
This is the Hendrik-Barracks, one of four battalion buildings of the 19th century Juliana van Stolberg-Barracks. This infantry-barracks was built between 1889-1892 outside the old downtown of Amersfoort along the Leusderweg. After having been pushed off by the army in 1979 the old barracks was meant to be completely demolished and built over with houses. After fierce resistance of the citizenry it was decided the four monumental battalion buildings would be spared. The remaining buildings were demolished in 1980. The four main buildings were converted into houses.
